Presentation of the foundation plaque of the Gonzalo "Gonchi" Rodríguez Cultural Center

The future Cultural Center will seek to build identity and responsible citizenship, sustained from the values of Gonzalo Rodriguez's life, celebrating his life and memory. It will seek to collect his legacy, guard his memory and contribute to the construction of mature and responsible citizenship through activities of interaction with the community. At the same time, the center will strengthen the links between the Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation and neighborhood associations, educational, sports and cultural institutions, from a place that, due to its values and architectural qualities, will become a reference point in the city, generating citizen awareness through an interactive space for road mobility that will contribute to the reduction of traffic accidents.

The first stage of work will begin in the coming weeks and will aim to recover the building of "El Tajamar" by architect Juan Antonio Scasso (1892-1973). The project also proposes a temporary installation to exhibit part of Gonzalo's collection. This phase is expected to be completed in the early months of next year.

The second phase of the Gonzalo Rodríguez Cultural Center project will include the Gonzalo Rodriguez Space and a Road Safety Interpretation Center, unprecedented in the region. In order to carry it out, a closed competition by invitation is underway with architectural firms from Uruguay (Danza-Starico-Cotignola Gualano Arquitectos, MAPA, Fábrica de Paisaje), Argentina (Parra Arquitectos), Chile (Elton-Leniz) and Norway (Dark Arkitekten), which will be evaluated by a jury of experts in the field, thus selecting the winning proposal.
