Training on Child Restraint System for Traffic National Police

On Friday, June 16, at the conference room at the National Traffic Police headquarters, Child Passenger Safety experts Mathías Silva and Marcelo Alborés led a session on child safe mobility to 40 traffic police officers.

This activity, held since 2011, enables future enforcers nationwide to express their concerns and learn about the correct use of child restraint systems in conformity with regulations in force.

It is through this type of activities that the Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez and the National Traffic Police Department aim to raise awareness and to make improvements on child transportation through more effective enforcement.

Child restraint systems represent the appropriate protection for children when traveling in a car. Use of CRSs reduces injuries in 75% in the event of a crash, and prevents the child from being expelled from the vehicle, and from impacting other occupants and elements in the vehicle.

Newborns until they reach 1.5m should travel in a CRS suitable for their weight and height protecting them during the different stages of growth.

Uruguay has regulations on Child Restraint Systems (CRS). The Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez played a fundamental role in their promotion, as well as in the technical support regarding specifications of the regulatory decree, were recommendations by the United Nations are used as reference.
