Presentation of the Chilean success story

During the event "Safe Children - Everyone's Responsibility", the publication "Child Restraint Systems, A multidimensional approach to strengthen their use. The Case of Chile", which summarizes the four main lines of action that made up the long-term policy to strengthen the use of Child Restraint Systems in Chile: diagnosis and adaptation of vehicle design and technology; control of laws and regulations; education and development of institutional capacities; and communication and social marketing campaigns aimed at citizens to promote cultural change and strengthen the use of CRS.

There is no single measure to successfully address the challenges posed by child road safety. To prevent every fatality, evidence-based policy making is critical. The systematization of experiences in Latin America and the Caribbean and the development of case studies contribute to bridging the evidence gap that informs policy development in the region. To this end, the Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez (FGR) explores the design and implementation of a complex intervention jointly promoted by the National Traffic Safety Commission (CONASET) of Chile's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT), FGR and Fundación FIA, aimed at reducing child fatalities in road crashes by promoting and strengthening the use of child restraint systems. The joint effort of the government, civil society organizations, the private sector and the public made it possible to implement a comprehensive plan to increase the use of Child Restraint Systems.
