Moving tribute to Gonchi at El Pinar Racetrack

Before the last race, María Fernanda "Nani" Rodríguez, Gonchi's sister and President of Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez, organization she created almost 18 years ago to keep his brother's legacy, thanked the “big family of the motor world who saw him grow and succeed.”

“Motor racing, as any other sport, takes effort and resources, but it looks after the family, our shared values, and that makes it one of the safest places to share with our loved ones. This is a highly competitive sport that once the race is over, everybody gets together sharing a barbecue with respect and a sense of brotherhood,” expressed Nani holding Gonchi´s helmet and the cup awarded in Monaco.

“Each September I come here and get down to earth. It is very difficult for me to come, but this is the place where he dreamt, made many mistakes and won many races. This is where he brought the F3000 achieving a record of audience that has not yet been broken, where many people told him he was crazy and all those stayed here when he went to Europe on his own,” remembered Nani.

“Coming here is understanding where we come from, it enables us to see the real dimension of his journey. I look around and I can see so many images, things I went through with Gonchi, things I live everyday with the Fundación. It is crazy to see that a Uruguayan man achieved all this,” she reflected.

“Gonchi is our daily inspiration at the Fundación. We are a team with a legacy originated in this racetrack which is tiny and huge at the same time, a powerful legacy motivating us daily.”

From Fundación, we thank AUVO and all those who were here showing their affection and remembering Gonchi. We know he will forever live in our memory.
