Awareness test

The Fundación Gonzalo Rodriguez, with the support of the National Road Safety Unit (UNASEV) and the Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO), presented a new road safety awareness campaign in our country.

The action called "Awareness Test" was created by the agency From -belonging to Grupo Punto- and takes as a reference the ophthalmologic test performed to each person who comes to obtain or renew the driving license throughout the country.

Fernando De Santiago, ophthalmologic surgeon, commented that "these initiatives are fundamental to generate behavioral changes in people. Test de Conciencia is an idea with the capacity to generate an impact on the driving habits of all the new drivers that take to the road every year."

Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in children and young people between 5 and 29 years of age in our country, causing 431 deaths, more than 25,000 injuries, and with an economic cost for Uruguay of more than US$ 1,500,000,000 in the year 2022. The campaign seeks to keep the issue of safe mobility on the public agenda, stressing the importance of having informed users on the subject; creating awareness about the role that everyone plays in society and how they can contribute positively from their place.

"No death in traffic is acceptable and, unfortunately, in Uruguay we still have regrettably high numbers of deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents. Incorporating this information to drivers who are going to get their driver's license -for the first time or to renew it- contributes to having safer users", said María Fernanda Rodríguez, president of Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez.

The development of this campaign was possible thanks to the special donation mechanism of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the support of the companies Blue Cross & Blue Shield - Uruguay; CIEMSA, CSI Ingenierios, and Colier.
