In the workshop, titled \u201cImproving Mobility in Urban Streets,\u201d the attendees learned about the challenges of traffic safety, the safe integration of bicycles into cities and the importance of improving traffic conditions in order for cities to seem \u201cmore welcoming\u201d to citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis training is one of many diverse courses of action taken by the Foundation with the goal of empowering all who are involved in traffic safety. We hope to promote safe and sustainable transportation in Uruguay and Latin America and initiatives like this help us achieve our goals,\u201d affirmed Nani Rodriguez, the President of the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation.<\/p>\n
This training was part of the project \u201cRaising Awareness Around Traffic Safety,\u201d developed by the Foundation, which works to place traffic safety on the government agenda and increase technical knowledge regarding vehicles in Uruguay. In 2018, 528 Uruguayans died and more than 26,000 were seriously injured in traffic accidents. Because of this, the development of strategies to change these unfortunate outcomes is key.<\/p>\n
Jacobo D\u00edaz Pineda, Director General of the Spanish Highway Association and President of the Iberian American Traffic Institute, has more than 25 years of experience in the field of traffic safety, highway preservation and financing and has developed multiple Plans of Traffic Safety in Spain as well as Latin America.<\/p>\n
Elena de la Pe\u00f1a Gonzales, Deputy Technical Director of the Spanish Highway Association, has ample experience in investigation and training in the field of traffic security and has worked on numerous projects as a consultant to I+D in Spain as well as the InterAmerican Development Bank and the World Bank.<\/p>\n
