More than 400 technicians trained

In an effort to strengthen knowledge and promote good practices for safe road mobility, the Government of El Salvador, through the Vice-Ministry of Transportation (VMT) and the Fund for Attention to Traffic Accident Victims (FONAT), is carrying out international cooperation work with experts from the Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez.

In two years, the Foundation’s specialists have trained 400 Salvadorans in road safety, including FONAT and VMT technicians, motorcyclists, drivers, and members of various institutions.

These workshops are carried out within the framework of the South-South cooperation project signed between the Government of El Salvador and Uruguay, which aims to strengthen El Salvador’s capacities for the sustainable management of road safety.

The Uruguayan professionals highlighted El Salvador’s interest in acquiring knowledge to improve road safety. “Undoubtedly there is a commitment on the part of the Government of El Salvador, it has already been demonstrated in this international cooperation that we are carrying out through the Agency of El Salvador for International Cooperation (ESCO) and the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (Auci). This is the first step to be taken”, said the training manager of the Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez, Mathías Silva.

The technicians who have been trained replicate the knowledge for the Salvadoran population in workshops on road safety diagnosis and strategy in the territories, technical training for trainers, instruction on safe mobility for motorcyclists, training on safe mobility for child passengers, and talks on safe mobility for home delivery and courier motorcyclists.

This training is also in preparation for the International Forum on Child Road Safety (FISEVI), which will take place in 2024 in El Salvador. FISEVI is an initiative for dialogue between actors with significant roles in road safety. Past editions of this international meeting have been held in countries such as Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Colombia. The fifth edition is projected to have a resounding success and impact in favor of road mobility in the country.
