Use of CRS in Montevideo

5,700 vehicles carrying children under 12 were observed at six points in the capital. According to the data, 46% do not use any safety method, 30.8% use CRS and 23.2% use only seat belts (a system that we at the Foundation consider unsafe for children under 12).

If these figures are divided by age group, 72.8% use CRS, 2.3% use seat belts and 25% do not use safety systems.  Meanwhile, between 1 and 5 years old, 60% use CRS, 6.2% use seat belts and 33.6% do not use any of the methods mentioned above. On the other hand, between 6 and 12 years old, 3.7% use CRS, 38.4% use seat belts and 57.9% do not use any restraint system.

This study, an initiative of the Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation, is part of the Montevideo Road Safety Plan announced by the MI, in which it is committed to reducing mortality in traffic accidents to 26% by June 2020 and which implies an increase in the control of the use of restraint systems in children.
