Urban Intervention to Raise Awareness of Road Safety

Through the presence of volunteers who came to the Independence Square, a concentration of hundreds of people representing the 528 people who died during the year 2018 in our country took place.

Committed to reducing the accident figures and in search of new public policies that will contribute to the reduction of the number of people injured and killed in traffic accidents, the organization invited the pre-candidates of all political parties to sign a commitment to implement concrete actions in their government programs.

The pre-candidates for the Presidency of the Republic, Jorge Larrañaga, Carolina Cosse, Pablo Mieres and Juan Sartori -as well as Gustavo Osta representing Julio María Sanguinetti- participated in the activity and committed to work to position road safety in their government programs. A scourge that represents to the country an expense of between 1% and 3% of the GDP.

The Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation's mission is to work to reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths due to traffic accidents, promoting safe and healthy mobility in Latin America. To achieve this, it collaborates with governments and other institutions in three complementary areas: creation and dissemination of relevant knowledge, promotion of regulations and public policies, and articulation of the efforts of multiple actors.

"Through this activity, we want to highlight what road accidents represent in our country. We need greater commitment from the authorities and that is why we are asking for new policies and concrete actions to be implemented in order to reverse such an important problem for our country" requested Maria Fernanda Rodriguez, President of the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation during her speech.

The meeting was attended by national authorities, representatives of the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation and companies and organizations that support the organization.

From the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation we want to thank especially the Banco de Seguros del Estado for the damaged cars located in the square; the Automóvil Club del Uruguay, which moved them; and Sildán for the security during the event.
