Peñarol pays homage to Gonzalo Rodriguez

In the Champion of the Century Stadium during the lead-up to the game, there were many activities to raise awareness around vehicle safety including a seat-belt simulation, virtual reality goggles and goggles to simulate drunk driving.

The soccer players entered the field with a special uniform commemorating 20 years since Gonchi passed away on September 11, 1999 at the Laguna Seca Racetrack. The players all held motorcycle helmets to raise awareness of traffic accidents, which took the lives of more than 528 Uruguayans in 2018, the majority of which were men under the age of 40 who were traveling on motorcycles.

These actions are part of the agreement that the club signed at the end of August with the Foundation. The agreement aims to promote and implement recommendations and proven practices to reduce traffic casualties in Uruguay.
